I just had to share this picture. This is a picture of my grandmother and her 10 brothers and sisters. They all had names that started with a "Z".
My grandmother is in the middle row on the far left. Her name was Zenobia. The story is that my great grandmother, Jutry, named her first child a daughter, Zylphia, after her sister. She named her second child, another daughter, Zula, after a friend. Her third child was a son and he was named Zaddock after her brother. Since she had three children with Z names she was encouraged to give the rest of her children Z names which she did. My grandmother, Zenovia Theresa, was born on July 3, 1897 and died in 1982 just a couple of weeks before my daughter was born. She was a great quilter and very liberated for her time. I have talked about her before. I have a few quilts that she made that I will take pictures of and post later but I wanted to share this with you.
I am in sort of a quilting funk lately. I have some projects started so I have plenty to work on. I need to take some time and confine myself to my sewing room until I get something done. With a new grandson and lots of basketball games there are definitely some distractions. My husband and I are also reading Nelson DeMille books. They are not the kind of books I usually read but it is fun for us to read the same books.

WOW....I love the picture and this
was VERY interesting...I can't wait
to see the quilts!!
what are the rest of the names? this is very interesting? I have heard of all the kids being named with the same letter, but never starting with a Z.
In my mom's family all the girls were J names and all the boys were B names. I love those Z names though. I think I'd make a much better Zenobia or Zula (Zula! I love it) than a Tonya. Sorry to hear that you're in a quilting wallow. Winter always does that to me. hope you get your groove back soon!
I think lots of people are in a quilting funk right now. Hoping it will pass. I love the all Z names. There are three sets of rhyming twins names on my grandfathers side.
What a great family story! I had a friend named Zelda. Did you have any Zelda's in the family? I had no idea there were so many names starting with Z. Very cool! Do you have any of your grandmother's quilts?
What a terrific photo and I loved reading the story of all the Z names. My grandmother was named "Nanniemay", all one word, and when my kids would fill out family trees in school, the teachers would always tell them that everyone called their grandma "Nannie" but it wasn't their grandma's real name!
I like some Nelson DeMille more than others, but I enjoy them when I'm looking for a good distraction.
My grandma died right before my son was born, too. Something I'll always feel sad about. We never have them long enough, do we?
Your family names are so interesting. And what a marvelous picture. Have you written down stories about your family? I've been working on doing this for mine and have found it so interesting.
