Playing

I have been working on a Christmas project and doing letters. What fun! If you want to have a ball go to Tonya's letter tutorials. I was reluctant to try it but making the letters is really fun. I am going to work some this morning. I decided to split my houses up and make two quilts instead of one. One house was so different from the others. I don't know why I did that.

I am playing with Quilt Pixie using Mary Lou Weidman's approach to making a story quilt. My idea is "getting older". Not growing old or getting old but GETTING OLDER. After all we are all getting older from the moment we are born. When I was young I thought it would be awful to get older but now that I am there it isn't so bad at all. "Getting older" brings up lots of thought for example:
gray hair
grandchildren
wrinkles
aches and pains
more time/less time
empty nest
elderly parent(s)
retirement
middle age spread
memories
loss of loved ones
sickness
Any suggestions?

you're working on a great list for getting older... One cultural image of getting older I don't see on your list is more aches and pains and doctoring...

love your letters...as for growing older what about wisdom, experience, achieving dreams.

I think that's such a wonderful way to approach a quilt. What an interesting list you have -- I hope you really do make it into a quilt!

Getting older means time to look at the trees- not just drive by them
imagining caring for the farm alone
returning to things I enjoyed in my youth and this time doing it because I want to.
A picture quilt may be in line for the first thing I do when I get to retire in three years!
