Measure Twice

A couple of years ago my darling daughter gave me some fabric for Christmas. In my own sentimental uptight way I have never been able to cut into any of it. I really wanted to use the Yoga Monkeys on the back of my Texas quilt. I measured and it was not quite wide enough or long enough so I thought I would add a piece of aqua. I cut the aqua and sewed it and it was not wide enough. So I took it out and decided to add purple, I cut again and again it was not wide enough!! So I measured twice and cut three times! This is the way it ended up.

It is different but I think I will like it. I am hand quilting this one.

I am doing free hand fans. If you have never hand quilted I would encourage you to try it. It is so relaxing when you get in to the rhythm of sewing.

I had a finish this weekend.

This might be my very favorite quilt ever. I read that many folks wash their quilts for that "old" look and I did that with this one. I love the way it turned out and it is now on the way to a brand new baby boy. I hope they enjoy it.

I love to handquilt and love the look of it in a completed quilt. Your backing with the yoga monkeys sounds like the kind of thing I do. Sometimes I think I'm never going to be able to make something without some awful mistake. Love the baby quilt.

I love the "crinkle" of a quilt, after it's been washed and dried. I've tried hand quilting, the front looks good, the back looks horrid. I need a few lessons in hand quilting.

You made the kind of back I end up making! It's called "quilt back art", and is a whole sub-genre of quilting. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Your baby boy quilt with the vehicles is so cute! And I always wash mine. . . it helps hide quilting boo-boos!

Oh yeah the measuring thing. It's a problem I have all the time! I like the way it turned out anyway don't you? So original!
Do you use a hoop to hand quilt? I have some patterns but am such a stippling fan that I just never thought of the hand quilting due to a bit of arthritis.
You picked and easy meandering stitch it seems.
